ALONG THE FORGE. JOHNNY PANESSA. APRIL AT PF GALLERY.

The Forge River isn’t the most dramatic ecological disaster you’ll hear about. It wouldn’t be splashed along the headlines like an oil spill or fracking contamination or the run-off from a strip mine. The Forge River is a far more staid affair, spanning generations of mundanity. Ducks shitting downstream. Cesspools seeping slowly into the bogs. It’s a bit like the raw beauty of Long Island itself, going unnoticed, unremarked upon, unknown. Johnny Panessa is a prodigal son of the Mastics, returning some eight years ago to his childhood home. For the last few years he’s been documenting the culture around the river, a place he refers to as the “one of the last places Long Island still feels like Long Island.” Along the Forge is a photographic essay about ecological degradation amidst the magic of dock culture.

Opening Reception Friday April 4th from 6-10 PM at PF Gallery.

Picture Farm is super excited to host “It doesn’t Not Work” on May 3rd & 4th with Imaginary Surf Co. & S.M.A.S.H.

As far as we can tell, the state of wavecraft design has never been so interesting. Theories on hydrodynamics, alternative materials and the tools to make them meet have never been so accessible. This is as relevant a folk art cum design community as you’ll find!

Submissions are being accepted until the middle of April. Send in photos or designs. A board you’ve shaped or an interesting or alternative shape you own. This includes all forms of hydrodynamic wavecraft.

FIVE MINUTES WITH PILITA GARCIA

On Friday night we are opening Pilita Garcia’s beautiful solo painting show at Picture Farm Gallery. An incredible feat, overcoming the unimaginative stolidity of the greyer of urban pressures, Pilita’s colorful sensibilities make for a violent incursion into our mundane winter slog.
